Taylor Shelly serves at the Eugene O’Neill Theater Center in Waterford as a Marketing and Communications Associate. This position combines Taylor’s love for theater and provides valuable development and management skills. It has been the perfect fit.
Taylor was born for the arts. Even from a young age, she has always been on a stage. At age 6 she started classical vocal training which quickly turned into musical theater training. Since then she’s held numerous roles including Sally Brown in “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown”, Gabriella in “High School Musical”, and Wendy in “Peter Pan” as well as working as a Character Performer during college at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida.
Although Taylor’s position at the theater is technically a desk job, her works affords her the ability to wear many different hats. For example, one day Taylor might be painting on a wall, preparing the space for event or performance, observing student performers or photographing the beautiful campus.
As a Serve Here fellow, Taylor has had the opportunity to network with individuals across professions who have a passion for the arts and community building in Connecticut.
“It’s just very insightful and eye opening,” Taylor says. “I’ve gained new perceptions and insights from their stories that can be applicable in my life and career in many other ways. Networking with my fellows helps guide my ideas of what I am looking to gain from my career and those I interact with in my profession.”
Taylor’s Serve Here CT fellowship has taught her the integral effect a quality theater can have on a neighborhood. She hopes to devote her career to strengthening quality performing arts in her community.
