Serve Here America began as Serve Here CT. Between 2015 and 2017, these fellows who are part of the Millennial generation, benefited from participation in this demonstration projected that was comprised of 3 components:
1) College Debt Reduction: offers a sensible, cost-effective methodology to reducing the one plus trillion dollar debt that is effectively sidelining the Millennial generation from participating in the American economy. Fellows received $10,000 after successful completion of the program to go toward repayment of college loans or toward their ongoing or future education.
2) Meaningful Employment: is an economic stimulus initiative for small employers in fields that offer career pathways for unemployed and underemployed individuals. Fellows were employed in the non-profit sector in a variety of roles. Their employers received $10,000 to go toward the creation of a NEW job in the State of Connecticut that has experienced a “brain drain” in recent years.
3) Two-Semester Learning Module: the twine that binds these initiatives together to bring meaning and understanding to those who participate in this demonstration project. Fellows participated in a Learning Module that focused on challenges of the Millennial generation, how to build social capital, the value of social networks, entrepreneurship, becoming acquainted with the leadership at their places of employment, design thinking, case study development, partnerships and collaboration, non-profit finance, and resource challenges.
